Our Story

If our vines could talk, they would have many exciting stories to tell, because the Weegmüller winery has existed for more than three hundred years, making it one of the oldest estates in the German Pfalz. In 1657, the Weegmüller family, an old Zurich council family, decided to move from Switzerland to the Pfalz. Almost 20 years later, the founder of the winery, Nikolaus Weegmüller, was naturalized in Neustadt-Haardt – in the middle of the German Wine Route. That the former Swiss city councilors would now become winegrowers was thus sealed. But it would then take another ten years before the family began growing wine on the excellent clay and sandstone soils of their property. The year was 1685 – the year the Weegmüller winery was born.

Over the centuries – and over eleven generations of the family – the estate has grown to a size of around 15 hectares. Various varieties grow on several sunny, high-class sites in the Mittelhaardt, which have the potential to produce excellent white wines. Unique wines from the "Balcony of the German Pfalz", which some also call the "Sun Terrace of Germany".

The German Pfalz

The Pfalz region (or Palatinate) is one of Germany’s most renowned and dynamic wine-growing areas, celebrated for its diversity of grape varieties, excellent terroir, and a rich winemaking tradition that dates back over 2,000 years. Nestled between the Haardt Mountains (an extension of the Vosges in France) and the Rhine River, the Pfalz stretches along the German Wine Route (Deutsche Weinstraße). The Pfalz enjoys one of the sunniest and driest climates in Germany, with a Mediterranean-like influence. This warmth allows for the cultivation of both white and red grape varieties, making it unique among German wine regions. The region boasts diverse soil types, including loess, clay, sandstone, limestone, and volcanic basalt. These varied soils contribute to the complexity and character of its wines. Gentle slopes and proximity to the mountains provide excellent drainage and sun exposure, ideal for grape ripening.

About us - Ines & Marc Feuerstein

Today, the legacy of Weegmüller lives on not only in Germany, but also here in the United States. With a passion for wine and a deep appreciation for heritage, Ines and Marc Feuerstein brought Weegmüller Wines across the Atlantic in 2025.

After moving with their two young sons from Düsseldorf to Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey in 2022, they embraced the challenge of introducing one of the Pfalz’s oldest family wineries to a new audience. Their mission is simple yet heartfelt: to share the elegance, freshness, and authenticity of Weegmüller with wine lovers in the U.S., while honoring the traditions that have shaped the estate for over three centuries.

For Ines and Marc, every bottle tells not only the story of the Pfalz vineyards, but also their own journey — from Germany to the U.S., from family tradition to new beginnings.
